Everyday Aesthetics; Kazantzakis ’Japan’
INTERIM CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR AESTHETICS
Delphi, Greece, September 10-12, 2020
The speech combines in a special way:
- the Aesthetics theory determined by Ancient Greek philosophers and its connection with the contemporary theory of ‘Everyday Aesthetics’, as shaped by Japanese philosophers. It is noteworthy that this culture focuses on and honors not only fine objects / environments but also fine behaviors.
- how a famous Greek inspirational man, our ecumenical author Nikos Kazantzakis, perceives the aesthetics of a different culture, the Japanese culture.
So, through Kazantzakis’ perspective, we will see the aesthetic aspects of Japanese gardens, the ceremony of tea preparation, traditional Japanese dressing, the cleanliness of their spaces, their sports, their behavior, etc.
